Following up on our email this past weekend updating some of my recent legislative work supporting our emergency responders, I wanted to provide you with further insight on some of my other bills that we have introduced this summer. There are more coming, but here is the latest:
HB 1825: Improving School Counseling
This legislation would create the School Counseling Services Act and require that schools develop a robust and comprehensive school counseling plan with the goals of improving the transition process following graduation, enhanced access to quality mental health supports, and strengthening relationships between guidance counselors and students.
HB 1567: Modernizing Standards for Interpreters
Our interpreter professionals serve as a gateway to a more accessible community, workplace, or classroom for our hard of hearing and Deaf community. Improving the pathway for interpreters to begin their career is to improve the access to quality and reliable interpreter services available to Pennsylvanians. It is critical that we remove any administrative barriers that can separate these individuals from the supports they need and deserve. My legislation addresses these issues.
HB 1635: Charter Reform- Returning Excess Special Education Payments
Today charter schools continue to receive their special education allocations based on the state’s flawed system that sent more than $200 million in excess special education funding to charter schools that was NOT used to provide services to students who have special needs. That is why I introduced legislation to put an end to this practice of sending special education dollars to charter schools at a rate that is far more than it costs to provide services to children.
HR 128: Commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11
For so many reasons, September 11, 2001, is a day that must not be forgotten. That’s why I, along with Rep. Frank Farry (R), introduced House Resolution 128 that officially commemorates the 20th anniversary of 9/11, remembering the lives lost but also the bravery of so many Americans who ran towards danger, here and abroad, to keep our country safe.
