Massachusetts Agrees to Stop Disability Bias Against Parents

The state of Massachusetts will stop discrimination against parents with disabilities and provide accommodations and services to help them keep or regain their children under a settlement with the Justice Department and Health and Human Services Department announced Thursday.

The federal government found that the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families discriminated against a parent with a developmental disability by denying her accommodations or the ability to benefit from supports and services to take care of her child. The state agency has also had other similar complaints filed over the past five years, the HHS said.
