A couple of years ago in a bipartisan effort, the legislature created the “Clean Slate” initiative, which was designed to make it easier for people who have completed certain criminal court obligations to have their records expunged. Up until this change, getting a criminal record expunged for even minor offenses in Pennsylvania was complicated and time
consuming. The vast majority of people with records or who are on probation are there with relatively low-level charges. Once court requirements are successfully completed, it is beneficial to everyone that these people are not overly penalized and that their careers and earning potentials are not unnecessarily impacted going forward. This is what Clean Slate helps accomplish.
Accordingly, thanks to County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, we are teaming up with the Allegheny County Office of Public Defender and Senator Wayne Fontana to host a free Expungement Clinic on April 30th at the Dormont Recreation Center. The event will be open from 10 am to 2 pm, and will be staffed with public defenders who will be on hand to answer questions and talk people through the entire process. You do not need to pre-register.
