LIHEAP - The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federal program that is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services to assist income-qualified households with winter home heating costs. LIHEAP offers two types of assistance: cash grants, which help customers pay their monthly bill, and crisis grants, which are for people who face emergency situations, such as a
broken furnace. If you are interested in applying for LIHEAP, you should do so as soon as possible. Applications opened on October 18th, and the deadline to apply is May 6th or whenever the funds are depleted, whichever comes first. You can call the toll-free LIHEAP hotline, 1-866-857-7095, contact the Allegheny County Assistance Office, or apply online at www.compass.state.pa.us.
