We are excited to announce that our final day of our free disability and mental health workshops is now open and registration is available online at DisabilitySummit.com!
The Summit is always my favorite event, and we have attempted to prioritize these issues from day one. For far too many people and families, stigma and system issues limit opportunities and limit life. Our state support network is often too complicated to understand, too difficult to integrate into, and too underfunded to complete its mission. Harrisburg must keep its promises, and that’s why we work hard to bring this unique event to our district every year.
This year due to some uncertainty, our format changed. We kicked off the Summit on March 17th at St. Clair Hospital with our bipartisan, bicameral Legislative Panel that you can now view online here. On April 28th we were back at Beth El where we presented 7 great sessions -- all of which will soon be uploaded to RepDanMiller.com.
And on our final day, May 26th, we will be bringing back even more of our disability and mental health programming for you to choose from, as well as the return of our resource fair, along with a special program for transition-aged youth in the evening. This event will not be broadcast so be sure to register for your sessions today!
Sessions:
There will be 11 informative sessions to choose from, some of which overlap, but the entire program and our presenter backgrounds can be viewed at DisabilitySummit.com. The kickoff program will be a special session on the state budget and how it relates to disability and mental health priorities.
Youth Program:
Youth programming has always been a fun part of our Summit and this year we are glad to offer a special program for transition-aged youth (14-26 years old). This program includes dinner and has a stigma workshop, as well as hands-on activities. You can register for this program here.
Resource Fair:
Our resource fair will be a bit smaller than years passed but will still include dozens of great organizations that will be on hand to talk about inclusion and support. We are not able to provide as great a flexibility as in previous years, but with over 50 organizations, there will still be a lot on hand for you to peruse!
IEP/504 Consultations:
A well-crafted and successful IEP can be a gamechanger for many self-advocates and their families. But some also have their share of challenges and disagreements along the way. That’s why we are always glad to team up with our friend who makes his law firm available free of charge to answer you directly about your case. You can pre-register for a free consultation here.
How to Register
The easiest way to register is to visit DisabilitySummit.com. On the site, you can review our schedule, and with a few quick clicks you can make sure to reserve your spot in the session that means the most to you and your family.
